Obituary for Joan Pickle Holmes

Joan Pickle Holmes passed peacefully at home in Meadow Vista, California on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Born in Big Spring, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Herman Randall Pickle and Elizabeth Maywood Rix Pickle. She attended Texas Tech University where she met her husband John Chester Holmes, Jr. They raised their children John Randall Holmes and Lisa Holmes Gall in Lafayette, Louisiana and eventually settled in Slidell, Louisiana. After 38 years of marriage, she was preceded in death by her husband. In recent years, she resided in Meadow Vista, California. Joan was an avid New Orleans Saints fan, a wicked Gin Rummy player, a shameless spoiler of dogs, and a genuine Southern lady. She will be remembered for her deep love of faith, family, and friends. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Marie Reinecke Holmes of Petersburg, Virginia, and her daughter and son-in-law Titus John Gall of Meadow Vista, California. She was grandmother to Rebecca Gall Crawford, Rachel Gall Castor, Jessica Gall Mayo, Sarah Gall of California, and Julia Holmes and John William Holmes of Virginia. In addition, she is survived by five great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Placer Hills Community Church, UMC in Meadow Vista on March 8 at 1:30 p.m. with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Placer Hills Community Church, UMC (17250 Placer Hills Road, Meadow Vista, CA, 95722) or Heifer International (www.heifer.org).
