Obituary for Robert Paul Crouse

Robert Paul (Bob/Buck) Crouse, 85 yrs. old, passed away on May 9, 2018 while a patient at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, Auburn California with his family surrounding him. Born on February 5, 1933 in Hillsboro, Ohio; he was the youngest and fourth son of thirteen children born to Raymond Paul and Sophia Pearl Crouse. He grew up in small towns and rural settings where he learned farming, horsemanship, carpentry and plumbing skills from both his parents and older siblings. Bob/Buck Crouse met his wife Dee at a military dance in Oakland CA and they married on December 25, 1953. Bob/Buck was in the US Navy and soon shipped out to Japan; while stationed there his first child was born in October of 1954.In 1955 he was transferred to Hawaii, where his wife and daughter Paula moved with him and lived in Hawaii for six months. They came back to the Bay Area where they settled and Dee gave birth to their second child Nancy and two years later their third child Chuck was born while the family lived in Oakland. The family then moved to Irvington and then Fremont, CA. Bob/Buck became a partner in a Plumbing business at this time and also became a member of the Plumbers Union. Bob/Buck taught all the neighbor kids to roller skate while skating with them on the sidewalks and even tried out for the Bay Area Bombers.
In 1968 Bob/Buck moved his family up into Auburn. He was always proud of that move and boasted about the fact (even on the last day of his life) that he had been here for 50 years. He loved horses so it was only a short time before the family had horses and he taught his children and wife how to ride and care for them. The family became members of a riding club and spent many a weekend competing against others on fun filled and spirited riding competitions. Bob/Buck couldn’t find work in the Sacramento area due to not being allowed to transfer into the Union so for a few years he would work in the Bay Area 4 days and be home for 3 days. After receiving a reputation in Auburn for doing excellent work he started his own plumbing business, Buck’s Plumbing, in 1973 where in 1975 his son Chuck joined and worked alongside his dad until Bob/Buck retired in 2005. Bob/Buck was one of two men, who after watching their sons play pee wee football in Roseville as there was no team in Auburn, founded what is now known as the Placer Jr Hillman in 1970. Bob/Buck was a partner with his wife and their son Chuck in many fun years of Sprint Car ownership and racing which also became a family endeavor with many members working on the cars and family attending the events in the Western states. He was a strict but loving father who was always involved in all things his children did and became a loving Papa in 1974 who taught his grandchildren a great deal and they hold boundless memories of all things done together as well as trips they went on with him and family. He had a wicked sense of humor and if he didn’t tease you about something or give you a hard time then he didn’t care very much for you.
Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dee, three brothers, six sisters and two great grand-daughters. Bob/Buck is survived by: Children – Paula (Michael) Chapman, Nancy (Rich) Thompson, and Charles/Chuck (Cindy) Crouse all of Auburn, CA; Grandchildren – Timothy (Sherri) Chapman of Lewisville, TX; Michelle/Mandi Chapman of Hurst, TX; Nikkole (Aaron) Brown of Folsom, CA; Kyle (fiancé Megan) Thompson of Auburn, CA; Kayla Thompson of Orlando, FL; Christa Crouse, Alyssa Chapman, Jaden Chapman and Cadee Crouse all of Auburn, CA; Great-grandchildren – Rebecca Kackley and Devyn Chapman of Lewisville, TX; Kevin (Kayla) Fredrick of Los Angeles, CA; Sophia Kirksey of Hurst, TX; Porter Michael Chapman and Archer James (AJ) Chapman-Ross of Auburn, CA.
