Obituary for James E. Sturgill

James Ernest Sturgill of Grass Valley, CA went to his Heavenly Home on July 30, 2017. He was born in Sacramento on December 10, 1939 to James A. and Louise T. Sturgill.
Jim graduated from McClatchy High School and attended Sacramento City College. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service while attending school and then joined the U.S. Air Force. After serving four years, he became a civilian employee at McClellan AFB and then transferred to Beale AFB. He served there in the 9th Civil Engineering Squadron as an air-conditioning-refrigeration mechanic. He retired in July 1999 with 38 years of service. While at Beale AFB, he received several suggestion awards that contributed to the effectiveness and improvement of operations.
He married Rebecca Jane Pierpoint on November 16, 1967 (almost made it to the 50th anniversary) in West Sacramento. This date was also the wedding anniversary date of Jane’s parents and maternal grandparents.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, teaching them archery which was his favorite sport. He also enjoyed fishing for salmon, riding dirt bikes, traveling, reading and watching NASCAR.
Jim attended Grace Bible Church of Cedar Ridge, and was a member of the Nevada County Sportsman’s Club and a member of Madison Lodge #23, Grass Valley, CA.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rebecca Jane Pierpoint Sturgill, Grass Valley, CA, and daughters, Julie Ann Sturgill, Grass Valley, CA, and Joan Eloise (Ron) Howe of Albany, OR. Also surviving are his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judith Ann and David M. Misoni of Big Rapids, MI.
He is also survived by his grandchildren- Emilia Rose Sturgill-DeLao, Elizabeth Alal Sturgill-Odong of Grass Valley, CA, and Eric Howe, Salem, OR, Sarah Jane Howe and Caleb James Howe, Albany, OR and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great, great-nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Louise Sturgill, sisters and brothers-in-law Bette and Morris Robinson and Irma Lou and Theodore “Ted” VandeSande.
No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Grace Bible Church of Cedar Ridge or to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation/Cardiac Rehab.
